Fun times

livin the life of a single parent this week...hubby is off on his "quarterly" trip and is gone all week.  this always makes for fun times, but this week is even better because my mother-in-law is gone too.  she usually is with cassie one day a week.  she also is an incredible woman and is willing to step in whenever i ask for help.  it is very very nice to have someone like that in our lives...especially one who lives so close!  well she's off in hawaii and hubby is off skiing in utah so i just hang out here.  it's like a job when i'm alone...just get to the next day right?

well yesterday morning was particularly fun...one of those mornings where you feel like someone is playing a joke on you.  cass has been sick for what seems like an endless amount of time.  she's on her third cold in less than two months and there's a neverending nighttime cough.  i've been polling friends and coworkers for their ideas on how to get her fixed up.  i may have figured it out, but more on that in a bit.

so yesterday morning she was all gunked up.  coughing and congested...nasty.  i went to get dressed while she played and when i came back a few minutes later, there was a curtain of snot that extended from nose to chin.  she didn't seem to notice even though it was covering her mouth!  n.a.s.t.y.  i got that off.  then realized there was poop...bad stinky poop.  got that taken care of.  of course we're running late right?  then as i'm getting her into her jacket, she sneezes and it all went right on to my pants.  lovely...no time to change.  so when she went to sneeze another time, what did i do?  i held her jacket in front of her face!  mother of the year :)

she seems to be doing a bit better.  i've been giving her a bath every night to loosen everything up, putting vicks in every place i can think of, doing saline drops in her nose (she particularly loves this...note sarcasm), using humidifier, and have the bed raised.  the last two nights weren't as bad as the ones before so maybe we're getting somewhere!  or maybe i'm so darn tired that i just don't hear her coughing anymore!

  1. You ARE Mother of the Year! Nice job! (No sarcasm either) This post leaves me feeling guilty on one hand that I can't live right next door each of my children to help out at any given moment and incredibly proud that I raised independent children who don't need my help on the other hand. Love you, dear daughter...Mom
