6 weeks
ahhh six weeks...this is supposed to be some magical marker when everything falls in to place and everyone is peaceful and calm. right??? haha...well, things are better than they were in the very beginning. i'll admit that. cassie sleeps for 4-5 hours after her last feeding of the day which allows for some good sleep for all of us. the she is up for one feeding during the night and a second feeding in the early morning. she is able to feed easily from the breast and the bottle which allows for some freedom for me.
cassie has started to do some very cute things...these balance out the occasional absolute meltdowns she has in the evenings. she is able to see farther and clearer now and she is tracking well. she holds her ducky pacifier to her mouth but is not able to put it back in if it falls out (much to our dismay because that leaves us to replace it about 50,000 times a day). she is smiling and has been doing so for about two weeks (before that it was mostly reflex smiling or smiling in her sleep). this is simply adorable. she is now cooing or squealing, mostly when lying on her back on the activity mat or in her crib watching the fan or mobile. sometimes she does it with us too and we have little conversations. the other day i found her sucking her thumb which was a first. she has the cutest sneezes...sometimes when she does it her hands fly up and she hits herself in the face which surprises her. it's fun to watch.
she is going through another growth spurt now which is leading to some irritability if we don't identify the cause of the cry fast enough. seems that the boob is the soothing mechanism now because she is feeding more often. unfortunately she has also started spitting up with many of her feedings. at four this morning she spit up down the front of herself and me, soaking most of what we were wearing. not so cool at 4am. she is getting stronger and is able to hold her head up for long periods of time. she is also kicking her strong legs and is able to scooch along on her activity mat with a little help from us. i'm pretty sure she has hit 11 pounds by now and has grown more in length (height?) as well. she is growing out of her newborn clothes pretty quickly! seems like her cheeks are weighing her down a little...sometimes we can't see her chin!
she seems to have identified as a yankees fan as she pooped and spit up on her red sox clothes. however this theory has not been fully tested as she does not have any yankees clothes yet. we'll have to get some and see how she behaves then. in the meantime, we took this picture of her with pillow pets from each team to show that things can be harmonious between the two!
we're looking forward to what comes next with our sweet girl!
