The good and the bad of breastfeeding

Good:
  1. cheap
  2. smarter baby
  3. healthier baby/better immune system for baby
  4. big boobs
  5. easy to bring "food" on airplane/trips
  6. bonding with baby
  7. easy
  8. "food" is always available (no need for midnight runs to store)
  9. lowers my risk of some cancers
  10. helps me lose pregnancy weight
  11. lower risk of SIDS
  12. less reflux 9although after this morning i'm not so sure)
  13. lowers risk of obesity for baby
  14. better dental health and eyesight for baby
  15. better for environment (post coming soon on how i'm ruining the environment in other ways)

Bad:
  1. mustard colored poops
  2. lots of poops
  3. huge nipples (will these ever go back to normal?)
  4. big boobs
  5. feeling like a cow who feeds on demand (up to a third of the hours in my day!)
  6. sore nipples
  7. hard
  8. can't drink wine when i want to
  9. nursing bras (my next career will be to make decent nursing bras)
  10. leakage/nursing pads (see this post)
  11. responsibility of being sole provider of baby's nourishment
  12. pumping (have to admit...i love it and hate it)
  13. hooter hider as fashion accessory

  1. Yes, your nips return to normal no matter how long you breast feed. Excellent lists - hard decision...Love, Mom

  3. The last one made me chuckle. For Christmas, Mike bought me sessions with a wardrobe stylist. When we were going through my closet, she found my old hooter hiders... and held them up with a confused look on her face... "is this a wrap skirt?" Ha, no...

Oh, and a little PSA -- be careful about saying your baby is "smarter" or "healthier" because she's breastfed. It's hard for me (and women like me) not to feel defensive when I hear/read these things because, while I did nurse Anna as much as I could, she was primarily formula fed. The important thing is that you're feeding your baby and it's working for all of you, not the source. :)
